Sunflower is back for the third annual Orie’s Garlic Fest, and we can’t wait! This is a fall celebration of all things garlic, with vendors and food makers incorporating all kinds of garlic into their menus. It’s also a cornucopia of the best fall produce and local goods, set in the picturesque Eberly Farms in northwest Wichita. Enjoy a free presentation on how to cook with garlic, let the kids enjoy a hayrack ride, or just kick back a garlic shooter and enjoy the live music.
We’re bringing back our black garlic mocha and black garlic chocolate cake for this special event. What is black garlic, you may ask? It’s a slow-roasted garlic treat that walks the line between sweet and savory. Orie’s describes their home-made black garlic like this:
Black garlic has a sweet and molasses-like flavor that adds a delicious level of complexity to any dish it’s added to. Sprinkle it onto meats, soups and chilis, eggs, hummus, aioli, roasted vegetables and more. It’s also amazing added to desserts like cookies, brownies, or hot chocolate.
Get ready to eat ALL the delicious garlicky foods this weekend, and we’ll see you at the festival on Sunday.
Sunflower Espresso is looking for a new member of our mobile café team. Our new barista will join a crew that prides itself on excellent service, heavenly coffee, and a genuine love for our customers.
Our coffee bus serves multiple times per week in the Wichita area, all year long. We use Kansas-roasted coffee, bake our own pastries, and serve everywhere – from Strong Man competitions to food truck rallies to weddings.
To be a Sunflower barista, you’ll need to not only create delicious coffee in all weather conditions, but also drive and set up the bus, and creatively solve problems. You don’t need to have barista or professional driving experience to apply; we’ll teach you the quirks of both the bus and the espresso machine. However, expect to work mornings and on weekends, often in a crowded bus with several coworkers.
Ideal Candidates will also have:
passion for coffee
a valid, unrestricted Kansas driver’s license and reliable transportation
excellent written and verbal communication skills
the ability to work in all weather conditions – from winter to hot summer
the ability to bend, twist, and lift up to 50 pounds
patience for working with customers to create their perfect drink, without patronizing or judging them
passion for a job well done
mega multi-tasking skills, and the ability to think creatively
If you’ve got passion for coffee and creating meaningful relationships with our customers, and if you want to be part of an excellent local food truck family, please apply!

One of the best things about being a local small business is getting to know other small business owners. There’s no END to the creativity Wichita’s business owners bring to the table.
Case in point: the owners of Wichita’s rad mobile photo booth Lamphouse Photo Company have started another business renting out some of their killer décor: Best Fringe Forever. We saw them asking for locations to display their fabulous fringe recently and volunteered the coffee bus!
Conan and Katherine came through with a beautiful fringe to decorate Telulah bus. We had a complete makeover, and absolutely no damage to the bus’ paint job.
Please enjoy these fun photos we took at the last Food Trucks at the Fountain rally, and consider using Best Fringe Forever to dress up your next party.
Happy St. Patrick’s day! Sunflower Espresso and friends have some fun things for you to check out.
Through this weekend, Third Place Brewing is slinging up some Irish Coffees using PT’s Coffee Roasting Co.’s own Flying Monkey espresso blend (supplied by yours truly). This drink is a delicious blend of coffee, Jameson Irish whisky, brown sugar, and heavy whipping cream that’s been slightly whipped. We even tested it out for ourselves!
On Saturday, check out the Delano St. Patrick’s day parade and stop in to say “hi”! We’ll be parked on Sycamore, north of the Delano Clock Tower and south of the Advanced Learning Library from 10 am to 2 pm. We hope to see you there!
Did you know that every year the average American family throws away around 500 pounds of food scraps that could be composted? Now imagine all the coffee and espresso grounds a coffee bus can produce!
That’s why we at Sunflower Espresso have partnered up with Nudge Compost. Their business model is simple. They provide us with several buckets (with liners and lids) where we put our food scraps and other compostable materials, and then they come by once a week to pick up and drop off clean buckets. That waste then gets turned into compost. The compost then goes back to costumers or gets donated to community gardens and schools.
Nudge Compost hopes to help strengthen the long-term soil health of our city, increase food security through better efficiency within the food system, and to ultimately decrease food waste. Their environmental awareness and desire to provide a service that improves our community makes them terrific business partners!
If you’re also interested in partnering up with Nudge Compost, check out their website, and sign-up! They work with both commercial businesses AND private residences.
